"The Return" of Nicholas Sparks

When I was in high school, I went through a huge Nicholas Sparks phase...I read everything he had ever published, starting with A Walk to Remember , which is the first book that tore my heart to shreds, and one of the only books I tend to read annually. There are a few things you can count on when you read Nicholas Sparks: The protagonists will fall in love There will be a devastating twist (or two) You cannot guarantee a happy ending These three reasons are why I continue to read Nicholas Sparks, and his latest novel, The Return,  did not disappoint.  Whose Return? After the death of his grandfather, Trevor Benson returns to New Bern, North Carolina to tend to his grandfather's house and beehives. Once there, what he finds is a deep connection with deputy sheriff, Natalie Masterson, who does not initially appear to reciprocate his feelings. Who do we turn to? When our romantic lives are a complete bust, who do we dream will magically appear and make everything better? Esther Zuckerman's new book, A Field Guide to Internet Boyfriends , has the answers to all of these questions, using examples of several "meme-worthy" celebrities that make our hearts pound excessively against our ribcage (male and female).  What is an "Internet Boyfriend?" As Zuckerman explains, this is far more than sexual attraction, although that does have some part to play in how we view these celebrities. What she aims to show us through her book is how celebrities like Timothee Chalamet, Chris Evans, Laura Dern and Janelle Monae make us feel connected to them through more than just their looks, but rather through their crush-worthy personalities.
